UMD Recruits – Kyle Osterberg
Kyle Osterberg, a Lakeville native born in September 1994,
is on track to becoming a Minnesota Duluth Bulldog. The 5’8” 171lb forward shoots left and is
currently skating for the Omaha Lancers, as he was selected 26th
overall by Omaha in the 2010 USHL futures draft.
In the 2009-2010 season, as a high school freshman at
Lakeville South, Osterberg scored 19 goals and finished with 63 points in only
28 games. Did I mention he was only a
freshman than?
Instead of coming back for his sophomore season at Lakeville
South, Kyle joined the U.S. National Development Team for the 2010-2011 season,
which plays USHL teams. In USHL games
Kyle marked 11 points in 35 games. As
part of the USA U17 team he scored 8 goals and 14 assists and the team ended up
winning the silver medal in the WHC-17.
Kyle stayed on the same trail for the following season
(2011-2012) and had 12 points against USHL teams. As a member of the USA U18 team he scored 7
goals and had 23 assists, helping his team and the United States bring home the
gold medal in the World Junior Championships (U18).
This season Kyle joins the team that drafted him in 2010,
the Omaha Lancers, and will continue to develop there. Kyle is a very quick and fast skater, which
fits right into the Bulldog style of game play.
Kyle knows how to handle the puck with finesse and isn’t afraid to be aggressive
in the corners. I imagine he’ll fit in
just fine here at The University of Minnesota Duluth and am excited for his
arrival in the 2012-2013 season.
GO DOGS!!
