Road Series - Notre Dame Fighting Irish

After coming off a decent series against Ohio State, tUMD is hoping to find a bit more of consistency this series in South Bend against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.  The Dogs won 6 to 2 on Friday blowing Ohio State out of the water, but suffered Saturday night and walked away with a 3 to 2 loss.  This series against the Irish is a big one for the Dogs and win, or even a sweep, would be fantastic.

Head coach Jeff Jackson has been with Notre Dame now for 8 seasons and has definitely had good and bad experiences along the way.  For the last 2 years Jackson has been developing a freshman class, now juniors, with a lot of talent.  Top guns out of this class are T.J. Tynan and Anders Lee, who were the top scorers on this squad at the end of last year.

In the offseason, ND suffered through some bad luck losing Riley Sheahan to an early departure and Mario Lucia who suffered a broken leg in August.  They also lost senior defenseman Sean Lorenz and talented forward Billy Maday to graduation.

Notre Dame's biggest concern at the end of last season was who was going to be the reliable goalie, able to play consistently through the season.  Both Mike Johnson and Steven Summerhays split time last year, both posting decent numbers.  Johnson finished with a 2.69ga and a .883 save percentage while Summerhays finished with a 2.43ga and a .910 save percentage.

The Fighting Irish started off the season with a tie against the US Under-18 team that went into overtime, then beat Maine 1 to 0 in the Ice Breaker Tournament which allowed them to play against Nebraska Omaha for the championship where they found another victory, beating a very talented UNO team 3 to 2.

Notre Dame is projected to finish roughly 2nd or 3rd in the CCHA this year and are currently ranked 9th in the nation.  They have the ability and experience to put pucks in the net and it's going to be key for our defense and goalies to communicate well and avoid leaving men open out front.  Watch out for Juniors T.J. Tynan and Anders Lee to slip inside and get quality shots and goalie Steven Summerhays who performed excellent in the Ice Breaker Tournament, allowing him to win the CCHA goalie of the week.

Games between Notre Dame and Minnesota Duluth have always been very close and UMD has the overall edge right now at 3-2-1.  I plan on this game being played very tight throughout both nights, and there is no doubt in my mind that UMD can sweep the green goblins on the road, it just depends what Bulldog team decides to show up!

Notre Dame will stream both the games for free and MY9 will be broadcasting Fridays game so anyone can tune in!

Anyway, theres your series preview, enjoy, and always...

GO DOGS!!!!!
