UMD Lands Spurrell

The University of Minnesota Duluth received a commitment from Spruce Grove Saint's star Sammy Spurrell.

Spurrell, a Sherwood Park, Alberta native, has been with the Saints (AJHL) for the last three years, with three games played during the 2009-10 season as well.

The 5'11", 180lb center began his career of amateur hockey playing for the Sherwood Park Squires Midget 15 program, followed by a year with Sherwood's Midget AAA team before moving ahead to join the Alberta Junior Hockey League's Spruce Grove Saints.

Spurrell had 16 goals for 28 points throughout the 25 games he participated in, although he suffered an upper body injury mid-January.

Upper body injury sustained

Although I have yet to see anything confirmed, I would assume Spurrell would join the Bulldogs for the 2013-14 season.
