Last Four Games? STATS!

The Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs are showing progress as the season continues forward.  I took a ganderin' to the Bulldog's last 4 games consisting of a 2-1 win and 1-5 loss at home to St. Cloud State as well as a 7-3 win and a 4-4 tie at Michigan Tech.

So the Bulldogs are 2-1-1 over that 4 game stretch, outscoring opponents 14-13, averaging 3.5 goals per game and 3.25 goals against.  Which is an improvement over the previous games, to a certain extent, where the Dogs averaged 2.6 goals for and 3.1 against.  An impressive improvement in scoring, but the goals against needs to drop.

In those 4 games, the Pups are outshooting opponents 134 to 106, averaging 33.5 shots per game.  The special teams are also looking pretty good.  Power play is 6 for 20, averaging 30% while penalty kill is at 14 for 17, or 82.4%.  The strikingly high penalty minute average the Dogs had racked up is decreasing as well as they average only 11 minutes per game now.

The new lines of Seidel-Cameranesi-Basaraba and Herbert-Crandall-Farley have been producing very well.  Given this was there first weekend as lines, I calculated it as though they were the same against St. Cloud as well.  So, first lets look at the scoring leaders over the past 4 games:

Forwards:
Austin Farley - 3 goals, 4 assists, 7 points (+4)
Mike Seidel - 3 goals, 2 assists, 5 points (-3)
Tony Cameranesi - 2 goals, 3 assists, 5 points (E)
Caleb Herbert - 2 goals, 2 assists, 4 points (+2)
Justin Crandall - 1 goal, 3 assists, 4 points (+4)
Joe Basaraba - 1 goal, 0 assists, 1 point (-1)

Defense:
Andy Welinski - 0 goals 5 assists (-3)
Wade Bergman - 1 goal 3 assists (+1)

That leaves the top 2 lines and top 2 defenseman with 13 goals and 22 assists for 35 points while skating +4 during those 4 games.  Pretty impressive, especially comparing it to previous weekends.

Lines at Michigan Tech:
Seidel - Cameranesi - Basaraba : (-4) 4 goals, 3 assists for 7 points
Herbert - Crandall - Farley : (+11) 6 goals, 7 assists for 13 points

So Austin Farley might be the spark the 2nd line needed to start producing.

Now let's take a look at how our goalies did.  Keep in mind Aaron Crandall started 3 of the last 4 games and Matt McNeely played the other one.

Goalie Stats for the Last Four Games:
Crandall - .868 save %, 3.33 gaa, 1-1-1 record
McNeely - .900 save %, 3.00 gaa, 1-0-0 record

Versus:
SCSU - .880 save %, 3.00 gaa, 1-1-0 record (Crandall)
MTU - .875 save %, 3.25 gaa, 1-0-1 record (McNeely & Crandall)

Last Four Games:
SCSU & MTU - .877 save %, 3.25 gaa, 2-1-1 record
