Sunday's Walk Through the WCHA

Let's walk through what happened in WCHA play this weekend, shall we?

There wasn't as much action this weekend in the WCHA, as many teams had the weekend off, but nevertheless action did take place.  Minnesota State kept their winning ways, Minnesota Duluth broke a losing streak and Nebraska Omaha squeezes a sweep in Anchorage.

Friday:

Who's Moppin....?

Well there is no doubt that Minnesota State is playing damn good hockey.  There was hanging questions earlier in the year about the teams that have played and all around schedule difficulty but I think with eight wins over TUC teams, the Mavericks are rumbling along with steam.  The Purple Mavs swept a visiting Michigan Tech team who only managed to score three goals on the weekend, compared to the 10 scored on them.  Mavericks are now riding on a four-game win streak with sweeps of Minnesota Duluth and Michigan Tech.

Since starting off the year clearly injured, Wisconsin has bounced back with quite an amazing effort.  Credit be given to solid goaltending and defense for keeping for keeping the majority of their games fairly low and offense for sneaking in goals when it counts.  Things are starting to click for the Badgers as they earned a split against highly ranked Minnesota who took Friday's game at the Kohl Center before falling 3-2 to Wisconsin at Soldier Field during the Hockey City Classic early Sunday.  Wisconsin will need to keep the fancy play up with the difficult schedule coming up, they host Penn State next weekend but take on Nebraska Omaha followed by St. Cloud State to wrap up the WCHA regular season.

Who's Floppin'...?

It's no secret the Alaska Anchorage has definitely had their fair share of troubles as of lately.  The Seawolves have only won two home games all year, with the last one being December 1st.  I've said it before in that I don't think anything was expected of the Seawolves as far as making noise in the conference this year, but I also wasn't anticipating a team this, well, bad.
