Saturday Morning Hangover - Beavers top Dogs 4-2

I'm not sure what happened last night.  It's like a repressed memory actually, something that never happened, simply because it couldn't have...  right???

The Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs fell 4-2 last night when the Bemidji State Beavers scored four power play goals.

Andy Welinski kicked off the game by scoring an even strength goal.  It was a simple wrist shot that had some "omph" on it that beat BSU goalie Andrew Walsh to put the Dogs up 1-0.  As far as scoring action went, that did it for the first period.  Cody Danberg and Drew Olson earned assists for Welinski's goal and the period finished up 1-0 in favor of the Pups.  Oh yeah and by the way, Alex Fons started between the pipes for the Pups.

A few minutes into the second period, Dan DeLisle took a penalty in attempt to put the puck in, great effort put plowed over Walsh which lead to a Bemidji State power play goal to tie the game at 1's.  Cal Decowski tallied his second of the year a couple minutes later to give the Dogs back the lead.  Assists went to DeLisle and Adam Krause who helped Decowski put the puck in during a scrum in front of the net.  So at this point Dogs are up 2-1 and take another penalty, Decowski for holding a BSU player's stick, which the Beavers converted successfully on to tie the game, again, at 2's.

Now the third period started and I ordered a pizza and was waiting outside for the pizza guy when it seemed as though both twitter and my tv lost control.  Austin Farley evidently checked a Beaver and it was ruled a five minute checking from behind and a game misconduct.  Tardy served the penalty and from what I'm being told, it should not have been a major penalty, if a penalty at all.  I'll post a video if Bemidji State has this sort of technology available, but don't get your hopes up.

From that point on BSU scored two more goals to the Bulldogs none, making the final score 4-2.  Andrew Walsh gets the win and Fons loses his first game starting as a Bulldog.

Well gosh that sucks.  The Bulldogs have now lost six in a row and ended Bemidji State's 12-game winless streak.

The Dogs have been blessed to have the leadership and skills from previous players like Jack Connolly, JT Brown, Justin Fontaine, Mike Connolly, Kenny Reiter, and even Justin Faulk.  I think as Bulldog fans we forget that these players are gone and the magic we once saw tic-tac-toeing across the ice might just take awhile to build back up again.

You'd think the Bulldogs would come out hungrier than ever tonight after getting beaten so many times, which is what I said about last night as well, so I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

As far as I know, Matt McNeely will start tonight.  The rest we'll have to wait for.
