So who's hot?
Well, let's start off with Wisconsin. The Badgers are currently on a 10-game unbeaten streak after their last two overtime wins at Minnesota State. 7-0-3 and have won the last 6 in row. Now the teams they have beaten are Huntsville, Anchorage, and Minnesota State, but it's not like the Mavericks aren't playing solid hockey this year? Are the Badgers for real? They host Miami Ohio next weekend to find out.
Since Christmas, Minnesota is on a 5-game win streak. Among the four different teams they've beat over that span are former number 1 Boston College and Notre Dame, so it's not like it's been a complete walk in the park. The Gophers will be tested next weekend as they host North Dakota in the last series between the two in at least a couple of years.
For a team that started off hot then cooled way down, Denver seems to be back on the rise again. The Pioneers took 3 points from a very good Nebraska Omaha team this weekend and swept Cornell before that. Have the Denver Pioneers broken the streak of inconsistency? They head to St. Cloud State next weekend to try and keep the streak alive.
After giving up an ill-felt loss to Colorado College on Friday night, North Dakota found it's wheels and blew past them on Saturday night earning their 7th win in their last 10 games. North Dakota is 6-1-1 in their last 8 game with big wins over Denver, Colorado College, and sweeps at home against Holy Cross and at Michigan Tech. The North Dakotas head to Minnesota to play the Gophers in one of college hockey's biggest rivalries next weekend.
Lastly, Minnesota Duluth started off the year with a lack of scoring, question marks on goaltending, and a lack-lead team. The Bulldogs seemed to have found the right track after failing miserably in the Florida College Classic, sweeping Michigan Tech at home this weekend. In their last 6 WCHA games, the Dogs are 4-1-1 and head to Colorado College to play a very good Tigers team next weekend.
