Now that hockey has started across North America and a few games have been played, let's take a look at where the future Bulldogs are playing and how they've faired in the first few games of the season.

New Look

My apologies as to drifting away from writing (says every blogger eventually) but I've been rather busy.

The old website I had originally created last spring wasn't doing it for me, so I found another skeleton and made it my own.  I hope you like it!  I'm always open to suggestions too, so feel free to hit me up.

New Conference.  New Team.


Before we dive right into picking apart every possible line situation and analyzing each team's strength from the league, I'd like to here what everyone else thinks may happen.

I'll give you a few reminders of what all went down last season to get you started, but keep in mind there was lineup changes very, very often.  This is what I found from late in the season last year...

Seidel - Herbert - Crandall
Farley - Cameranesi - Basaraba
Danberg - Hendo - Flaherty
DeLisle - Decowski - Krause

Olson - Welinski
Smith - Casto
Corrin - Bergman

McNeely - Crandall - Fons

Scratches: Johnson, Tardy, McManus, Young, Sampair

With that being the way it was, now we have to do the "out with the old, in with the new" dealio and see how we look.

Seidel, Danberg, Hendo, Flaherty, DeLisle, Olson, Casto, and Bergman have all departed.  This frees up 5 forwards and 3 defensive situations.  The dogs are bringing in 8 more recruits to fill some gaps, along with the players already rostered.

Alex Iafallo, Dom Toninato, Kyle Osterberg, and Sammy Spurrell will set a strong tone for the offensive unit coming in.  Being we lost 5 forwards, look for someone currently rostered to step up.

UMD's biggest weakness, undoubtedly will be our d-core.  Losing half of the normal night-to-night guys is going to cause a headache unless we have some eager rooks to fill the gaps.  Carson Soucy, Willie Raskob, Brendan Kotyk, and Dan Molenaar will be the freshmen coming in to repair.

So take all that information, add it up, and we have some interesting gaps to fill.

As summer winds down and hockey season draws near, fans get more excited for the first puck of the season to drop.  This year, the Pups look to venture farther into post-season play and earn a spot in the NCAA tourney once again.

Building on last year's season to accomplish this year's goals will take a tremendous amount of hard work and a crop of very talented freshmen.  Bulldog Country got the opportunity to play a little "Q and A" with the incoming freshmen and will be sharing what the players had to say over the next few weeks.

News, News, and More News.

Although the season is a more than a few weeks out, NCAA Men's Hockey is flourishing with news, adding even more eagerness for the first puck to drop.  

Christian Dvorak

Wisconsin Recruit, Christian Dvorak, chose to void his collegiate path and go Major Junior as he joins London of the Ontario Hockey League.  Read Andy Johnson's article posted on Bucky's 5th Quarter right here.

The NCHC has agreed to allow the conference to use shootouts for a winner to be chosen during regular season play.  Much like the CCHA did it, the NCHC will allow a 5-minute sudden-death overtime after regulation play has expired, followed by the shootout to determine a winner, if the sudden-death ended scoreless.  CHN posted a staff report here.

Two Nebraska-Omaha hockey players were dismissed from the team a few day's ago in violation to team policy.  Senior Matt White and freshman Preston Hodge received misdemeanor tickets for disorderly conduct when they were caught allegedly fighting and making racial slurs outside of a bar.  Nate Wells has that story on SB Nation College Hockey.

Although this is by no means, "Breaking News", I thought I would inform those who haven't heard of the news that the NCHC has recently released.

The two bits of news released is the NCHC's partnership with Sport NGIN and the launch of the official website last week as well as the the sale of NCHC Championship tickets.

College Hockey Inc. just released information to the 2014-15 & 2015-16 Ice Breaker Tournament.

The tournament, which is managed by College Hockey Inc., is usually the very first hockey tournament to kick off the new season.  They recently released information revealing that Notre Dame will host the tournament for the 2014-15 season and Maine will host to start the 2015-16 season.

The University of Minnesota Duluth announced the 2013-14 team roster yesterday.  Some changes were made to existing players and incoming freshman were issued their sweater numbers during their hockey careers at UMD.
