WCHA Weekend Recap - A Stroll Through the Last Weekend
Duluth was dumped on by thick white puffy snow which made travelling to arena a difficult task Saturday night. The rest of the world was in weatherly peace as far as I know, but the WCHA wasn't. As it was the last weekend for teams to make an impact and shoot for home-ice in the first WCHA playoff series, all of hell just about broke loose.
Friday:
Colorado College 0 at Michigan Tech 2
St. Cloud State 4 at Wisconsin 2
Nebraska Omaha 4 at Minnesota Duluth 5
Minnesota 4 at Bemidji State 3
North Dakota 4 at Minnesota State 3
Alaska Anchorage 1 at Denver 7
Saturday:
Colorado College 4 at Michigan Tech 3
Minnesota 5 at Bemidji State 1
North Dakota 1 at Minnesota State 2 OT
St. Cloud State 2 at Wisconsin 3
Nebraska Omaha 0 at Minnesota Duluth 6
Sunday:
Alaska Anchorage 1 at Denver 6
Who's Moppin':
There's no doubt that The Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs have been on an absolute roll lately, especially this weekend. This weekend alone the Bulldogs scored 11 goals and only allowed 4, if that isn't impressive I'm not sure what is. The Bulldogs swept Nebraska Omaha this past weekend and travel to Wisconsin for the first round of WCHA playoffs next weekend for a best of three series.
The Denver Pioneers and the Minnesota Golden Gophers are other teams that completed weekend sweeps. Although opponents against UAA and BSU, a sweep in the WCHA is still a rare feat and very difficult. Both UMTC and DU were 100% on the penalty kill and had "goals for" above 4 a game.
Who's Floppin':
If anyone is riding the struggle bus in the WCHA it's Nebraska Omaha. They were currently swept by Minnesota Duluth following another weekend of being swept by Wisconsin. They also lost the race for home ice in the WCHA falling to seventh. This weekend the Red Mavericks gave up 11 goals to the Bulldogs and killed only 41.7% of their penalties.
